The aim of Scientology is to make people more able. To free people from the chains of the reactive mind. To help people move up above the group dominated bank.
Proof of this can be found in LRHs books, in the Technical volumes and of course in his lectures — even though this is not represented in Corporate Scientology’s world. In fact, those within Corporate Scientology must toe the line, comply to cut comm lines, and must fit the pattern of conduct as dictated by the group or they are persecuted, attacked if not excommunicated. We have jokingly referred to them as robots — but it is actually a very accurate description.
In the Sea Org, there is a quote from the 17 October 1969 LRH Lecture entitled “Why the Sea Org is Successful” which is Chinese Schooled in every EPF, on every RPF and by every org on the planet. The quote is:
“And that is the definition of a team. It is people who cooperate one with another to push forward a common purpose. And they, normally get a long great. Now the trick is to be an individual and a member of the team at the same time. The only way one solves that is to come up tone until you can do it.”
Most SO members have had this one quote drilled into their minds so strongly that they can say it verbatim. If there are instances when they go against “command intention”, or not operating as a “team member”, or “forwarding command intention” — then this quote is used as part of the arsenal to force compliance and to point out that it is the group that is all and the individual is simply not.
But this is where it gets interesting.
Here is the rest of that same quote which is NOT included in the Chinese School, and that actually makes it clear that the way the quote is being used, and has been used for years, is contrary to the actual lecture as given by LRH. This follows on from the above and should actually read:
“And that is the definition of a team. It is people who cooperate one with another to push forward a common purpose. And they, normally get a long great. Now the trick is to be an individual and a member of the team at the same time. The only way one solves that is to come up tone until you can do it. Nobody is really trying to make a pattern individual with processing or anything else – training or anything.
“Nobody is really trying to make a pattern individual. This information is available, these technologies and so on are applicable, they are sound and they are usable. But if that starts wiping out the individual, why, then you have lost to that degree, because it is individual initiative, working in the midst of a team and making this go right that eventually brings the whole thing off. “ LRH
There is no question that the Sea Organization, as a third dynamic, has gone terribly wrong.In my assessment, it enforces a pattern individual. It has effectively become what it was supposed to handle — the group bank.
The future lies in creating teams that cooperate and push forward the common purpose, without stomping on, crushing or negating the individual and the initiative they bring.
That is the true test and way forward.
