Poverty, my daughter assures me, is owning a horse.

Previously I was convinced it was owning a yacht.

However, a third possibility on the most effective way to empty a purse is weddings!

The wedding of my grand-daughter has opened my eyes. First was the outfit (mine was more expensive than my spouse), then there was the hair (hers was more expensive), the nails (blokes don’t do nails), and the ferrying back and forth from the airport to pick up the incoming relatives (45 minutes trip each way). And then there were the numerous odd trips. “Bernie could you pick up the flowers, everyone else is too busy?”. There goes another hour and a half trip, added to the fuel bill.

Got me thinking about money, wealth and what is important in this world. And then I remembered this great little article:

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness…you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep…you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace … you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married … you are very rare, even in the United States and Canada.

If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all. (Author unknown)

These simple words always me a new perspective.

Real wealth is not money.  It is our knowledge, our skills and abilities.

Richness has no relation to the amount of money in your bank account:

“Insecurity exists in the absence of knowledge. All security derives from knowledge” LRH (Problems of Work)

“The only richness there is is understanding”  LRH (Understanding: The universal solvent)

  1. Talk about a glass 1/2 full? Just maybe, that old adage needs to be upgraded to 9 tenths full, going by the above analogy, Bernie 🙂

  2. love it all and esp the LRH quotes , personal life story Weddings and most also Wow those facts !!! jeez I do feel quite fortunate after all 😉 and want to gain more abilities and skills with Study!!!

  3. Glad you liked the article, and thinking more, not only do we have that elusive manual of life thanks to LRH, but those of us who have elected to be free have the richness to practice and follow that manual as he wrote it. No wonder my kids find it hard to buy presents for me.
